About our Batiks from China:
These batik wall hangings are individually produced by some of China's pre-eminent batik artists from Yunan province. Each one is a work of art. We are proud to add these to our line of hand-made products. Batiks are produced by applying wax to the fabric in the areas that are to remain undyed. When the fabric is inserted into the dye, the dye takes to the unwaxed areas. Often a brittle wax is used which cracks during the dying process allowing the dye in, resulting in the characteristic thin lines.

Traditional Batik Sarong, Design E The traditional style of Batik from the island of Java involves the time consuming and painstaking process of applying wax in a series of tiny dots and finely detailed geometric patterns amid carefully drawn leaves, flowers and butterflies. These sarongs are screen prints of this beautiful type of art. These sarongs are beautiful blends of autumn colors.

Sarongs are worn in a variety of ways. Wrap as a skirt, top, headpiece, scarf or shawl. They are not only the perfect beach wrap but they make a great tablecloth, wall hanging or curtain. The sarongs (also known as Pareos) we bring you come from Bali. We travel there annually to pick out the finest ones to add to our selection. Most of these beautiful designs are done by batik, applying wax to the fabric to resist the dye. The wax is then removed revealing the design. All are made from fast drying, breathable rayon and measure approximately 66" x 46", not including the fringe. They wash easily by hand or machine. Hang to dry. Wash separately the first time or two.
